Basics
What is the Finnish Bike Register?
A service where you can register your bike, check status by frame number, report theft, receive sightings securely and download a registration certificate when selling.
Who is this service for?
Bike owners, buyers, bike shops and anyone who wants to check a bike or report a sighting.
Is the service free?
Yes. Registration, checks and sighting reports are free. Data is stored securely within the EU.
What information is shown publicly?
The stolen bikes list shows only identification details (brand, model, optional photo, last digits of the frame number). Owner personal data is not published. The certificate verification page shows current status and identification details, not the owner's contact information.
Using the service
How do I create an account and register a bike?
Create an account on the Register page and confirm your email via the link in the message. Sign in and add your bike under My bikes → Register new bike. Frame number and brand are required; you can add a photo, receipt and other optional details.
How do I check a bike before buying?
Open the Check page and enter the frame number. You will see whether the bike is registered and marked stolen. The page includes buyer guidance. Ask the seller for a registration certificate and scan its QR code or open the verification link.
What is a registration certificate?
A PDF or on-screen view the owner can download from the bike card (Download PDF certificate) or show to a buyer (Show to buyer). It includes an archive ID (SPR-…), frame number, owner name at issue time and a QR code. Anyone can verify current status via QR — valid, voided (e.g. ownership changed) or not found. It is not an official government document; status is always verified in the register.
How do I get all documents at once for my insurer or the police?
On the bike card, download the insurance and police pack (zip). It includes a readme, registration certificate PDF, bike photo and receipt if stored, and the file varkausilmoitus-rekisterissa.txt with the register theft report summary if the bike is marked stolen. Nothing is sent automatically — attach the pack yourself to your claim or your own records.
How do I report a sighting of a stolen bike?
After a search on Check or directly from the Stolen bikes list. The sighting is relayed to the owner; the reporter does not see the owner's contact details.
I found my own bike in the service, but it is registered to someone else. What should I do?
Open Check, search by frame number and choose "This is my bike". Describe your claim in detail (receipt, frame details, identifying marks, police case). Admin will review the dispute. While open, the bike is locked and ownership cannot be transferred until a decision.
How do I transfer bike ownership?
Open the bike via My bikes → Manage and enter the recipient's email. When you start transfer, you first receive a confirmation email to your login address — only after clicking the link is the request created and the recipient notified. The recipient signs in with the same email and accepts or rejects under My bikes. You can cancel a pending transfer from the bike card.
How does a bike shop register a bike for a customer?
Approved partner shops receive an eight-digit shop code. The shop opens For bike shops, enters the code and sends an email invite with bike details (optional receipt). The customer opens the link, signs in or creates an account with the same email and accepts — the bike appears under My bikes.
Security and privacy
Can someone who reports a sighting see the owner's details?
No. The owner's contact details are not shown. The sighting is relayed securely through the service.
What if I do not receive email (signup, password reset or transfer)?
Check spam and wait a moment. Signup and password reset messages are sent from Finnish Bike Register. For ownership transfer, the confirmation link is sent to you first; the recipient is notified only after that. The link is valid for about 20 minutes. Contact info@suomenpyorarekisteri.fi if needed.
Can a stolen bike be transferred?
No. Transfer is blocked. After clearing stolen status, a 72-hour safety delay applies.
How do I delete a bike or my account?
Bike deletion is started from the bike card and confirmed via email link. Account deletion is under My profile and also requires email confirmation.
Does frame-number history follow the bike?
Yes. The frame number accumulates event history so ownership changes and security events can be verified. History on the bike card is shown in anonymized form.
Where can I find official guidance if my bike gets stolen?
